Mobile networks in Malaysia

These are the local operators our providers name in their own plan descriptions. Which network a plan rides on matters more than the brand selling it.

NETWORKPROVIDERS THAT NAME ITPLANS MENTIONING IT5G SEEN

Counted from the plan text itself. A plan often names more than one operator, so these figures overlap and are not a market share.

How to activate your Malaysia eSIM

1

Buy the plan

Check out on the provider's own site. The QR code lands in your inbox within a few minutes.

2

Install on home wifi

Scan the QR before you fly. Installing is not activating, so nothing starts counting down yet.

3

Land in Malaysia

Turn on data roaming for the eSIM line only, and leave your home line on for calls and one-time codes.

4

Check it attached

You should pick up a local network within a minute. If not, toggle airplane mode once.

GUIDE

What is the best eSIM for Malaysia?

It depends on how long you are staying and how much data you get through, which is why we do not name a single winner. As of 10 September 2026 we track 1,894 Malaysia plans from 46 providers. The cheapest entry price is $0.40 for 300 MB/day (Unlimited) over 1 Day from ABestEsim. The best value per gigabyte is $0.06/GB, on a 300 GB plan from Velo eSIM. Those two facts point at completely different travellers.

How these plans are compared

Each provider's live catalogue is read and normalised onto the same terms: price, allowance, validity, network tier and, where the provider states it, hotspot and top-up support. Everything with a fixed allowance is converted to a price per gigabyte so a 500 MB plan and a 100 GB plan can be compared on one axis. 618 of the 1,894 plans here carry a fixed allowance and a real term, so those are the ones the ranking uses.

Why unlimited plans are ranked separately

1,100 of the plans here are sold as unlimited, and almost all of them carry a fair-use cap in the small print. Dividing a price by an allowance that does not exist produces a number that means nothing, so they sit below the per-GB table with their own cap printed as the provider words it.

Picking by trip length

  • A few days. Buy small. Paying for thirty days of validity you will never use is the most common mistake on this page.
  • Two weeks. Ten to fifteen gigabytes suits most people, especially if you will hotspot a laptop.
  • A month or more. Look for top-up support rather than the biggest allowance. Extending a live plan usually beats buying a second one at full price.

Before you buy

  • Dial *#06# and look for an EID. No EID means the phone cannot take an eSIM, whatever the spec sheet says.
  • Confirm hotspot is permitted if you plan to share the connection. It is the restriction providers are quietest about.
  • 1,267 of these plans advertise 5G. On a short trip the real-world difference is smaller than the marketing suggests.
  • Apply the code before paying. Every code on this page is one we hold with that provider, and the price beside it already includes it.

Malaysia eSIM questions

What is the cheapest eSIM for Malaysia?

The cheapest entry price we track is $0.40 from ABestEsim for 300 MB/day (Unlimited) over 1 Day. That is the cheapest to buy, which is not the same as the best value.

What is the best value Malaysia eSIM per GB?

$0.06/GB, on a 300 GB plan valid 5 Days from Velo eSIM. Price per gigabyte improves sharply with allowance size, which is why the largest plans sit at the top of the table.

How many providers sell Malaysia eSIMs?

46 of the providers in our index currently list Malaysia plans, 1,894 between them.

Are the unlimited plans really unlimited?

1,100 plans here are sold as unlimited, and nearly all carry a fair-use cap in the small print. Each one shows its cap as the provider words it, and they are ranked separately from the per-GB table.

Which network will I be on in Malaysia?

The operators our providers name for Malaysia are Maxis, Celcom, Digi. Many plans name more than one and switch between them, and a plan that names none is not stated by its provider.

Do these promo codes work?

Every code shown is one we hold with that provider and re-test. The bold price beside it already includes the discount; the struck-through figure is the provider's own list price.

How long does activation take?

Usually minutes. Most providers email a QR code straight after payment. Install on wifi before you travel, because validity generally starts on first connection abroad rather than at purchase.
